Déjà vu, Again and Again
Filed Under Deja vu, New York Times, Recent stories | 1 Comment
The story I’ve been working on for the last few months, about déjà vu and an associated condition called déjà vecu, is out this weekend in the New York Times Magazine. It’s also available on their site here, I’ll post the whole story back here in a week.
I’ll also be posting some stuff that didn’t make it in, from my interviews and research. In the meantime, feel free to leave thoughts, complaints, objections, etc., in the comments. Or email me using the link to your right.
For anyone further interested in persistent déjà vecu, Chris Moulin has posted his journal articles online. The longer paper from Neuropsychologia is here. A shorter paper from the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry is here.
And for anyone with further interest in the general scientific study of déjà vu, I highly recommend Alan Brown’s book, The Déjà Vu Experience. It’s an exhaustive compendium of nearly all of the available theory and research on the topic. Nearly, only because it was published prior to both Chris Moulin’s work and some interesting new experiments from Brown himself (which I’ll be writing about in the next couple of days). You should also check out the work of Dr. Vernon Neppe (who established the scientific definition of déjà vu) at the Pacific Neuropsychiatric Institute. Dr. Neppe told me he plans to reissue his book on déjà vu from the 1980s soon, on the site, along with additional material.
